Growth Has to be Intentional

A Harvest of Corn

A Harvest of Corn

Wishing Doesn’t Make It Happen

Just like you plant corn seed to grow corn, you have to plant good thoughts in order to grow a good crop. Just like you can’t “think” a corn harvest in, if you “wish” hard enough you can go outside and your rows will be full of corn, ready to pick. That doesn’t just happen. It takes a lot of preparation, time and hard work to get a harvest. You have to invest first before you have get a return on your investment. No input, no output.

Sometimes we go about life that way, hoping things will change but never making them change. We wish our lives away and wonder why our life didn’t go as we thought. You are the driver of your life. You are the author. You are writing the script. What will your life look like in a year, five years, ten years?

  • Do you want to get out of debt? Will you be out of debt?
  • Do you want to have some money to do some fun things, and start saving for retirement? Will you be in the black?
  • Do you want to lose weight and get healthy and fit? Will you be fit and fab?
  • Do you want to change careers or get promoted in your current position? Will you be stuck in the same rut, hating your job?
  • Do you want to get a new car or house? Will your car stop running before you get a new one?
  • Do you want to have children, or put your children through college? Will they get a good education to get a decent job?
  • Do you want to meet some new friends? Will you be stuck sitting on the couch with nowhere to go or nothing to do?
  • Do you want to be free from fear, worry, stress, or emotional triggers? Will you still be living in chaos and unrest, no peace?
  • Do you want to kick a bad habit or addiction? Will you go around the mountain one more year?

Start Where You Are

You are the only one who can decide, but then you have to make a plan “How” you are going to get there, then start heading in that direction. Start walking. You can only start from where you are. You can’t be where you’re not.

  • Do you wish you were already out of debt, or had lost 30 pounds? Sure! But you are still in debt. So start with paying off an extra $5 or $10 here or there, then increase it as the first debt is paid off. It goes without saying, don’t increase your debt any more.
  • You are still overweight. Likewise start eating healthy and getting regular exercise to lose weight, and stop eating all the crap and being lazy and not exercising. You have to do both to see any progress.

Weed & Feed

Daily water your seed with good positive thoughts, and the Word of God. Bless your efforts, not curse them. You will eat the words of your mouth, so choose your words carefully. Then weed your mind of negative thoughts that would try to pull you down and discourage you. Filter them when they come knocking. You don’t have to invite them in and entertain them. Shut the door on them and don’t let them in. This is your house and you make the rules.

Homework

Sit down and make your list. This is your life. How would you like to live it? Formulate a plan on how you can accomplish this. Then get started. The first step is the hardest. Once you’re moving, momentum helps keep you going. Keep track every week and see how you are doing. Like looking at your map when you are on a road trip to make sure you are not off course, look at your plan and follow it. Keep going and take short breaks. You’ll make it…if you don’t stop, and keep putting one foot in front of another.

Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail!
